來自NYDailynews 的隨隊記者部落格 (今天是Mark,感覺他還挺王的) What should the Yankees do with Chien-Ming Wang? June 11, 2009 After Wednesday night's game, Joe Girardi was non-committal about giving Chien-Ming Wang another start on Tuesday, saying he would sleep on it before making a decision. So let me get this straight: A week ago, as Wang prepared to make his first start since coming back from the DL, Girardi says he’s not auditioning for his job, that a two-time 19-game winner doesn’t have to pitch for his spot start-to-start. Wang gives up five runs in 4 2/3 innings to the Rangers (who had the best record in the AL at the time) - a start Girardi himself called a step forward - and the manager immediately says after the game that he’ll give Wang the ball at Fenway Park, no questions asked. Now, after a disastrous 2 2/3 inning, four-run start against the Red Sox - who now have the best record in the AL - Girardi doesn’t know if Wang will start in six days? Nice message to send. Wang’s next turn would come against the Nationals. In case you haven’t been following them closely, they don’t have the best record in the AL. They have the worst record in the majors. If the Yankees actually believe that Wang is capable of returning to his old form - and they all claim that they do - then how do you not give him the opportunity to pitch against the worst team in baseball after throwing him back out there against two of the best? Does that seem fair? If Wang gets the ball on Tuesday and gets rocked by Washington, I would be the first one to send him to the bullpen or the disabled list. But to yank him from the rotation before a game in which he has a decent chance of succeeding and building his confidence would be a ridiculous move. If they do that, they might as well trade him, because it will be painfully obvious that they have no faith in him ever regaining his 19-game form. Girardi's reluctance to commit to another start for Wang leads me to believe that he's planning on removing him from the rotation, at least for the next turn. Hopefully we'll have a clearer picture on Thursday. As for the 0-7 record against the Red Sox, it’s certainly not encouraging, but it’s also not the end of the world despite what fans are undoubtedly feeling right now. Being one game out of first place on June 10 is fine. If the Yankees go 0-18 against the Red Sox and 102-42 against the rest of the league, no one will care in the end unless the two rivals meet in the ALCS. There are 11 more games between the Yankees and Red Sox and 103 more games overall. Don’t get caught up in the head-to-head record just yet. Be more concerned about the Yankees’ big picture, and that means worrying about Wang and A.J. Burnett first and foremost. Maybe Dave Eiland should have been on this week’s power poll, because his job just got a whole lot tougher in the past 30 hours. http://tinyurl.com/mcbqut -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.109.23.38
