Yankees have five arbitration decisions to make

The MLBPA released the list of 210 players eligible for arbitration,
though only five of them belong to the Yankees, who must decide by
December 12 whether to offer them arbitration or non-tender them.
Here’s a quick rundown:

Chien-Ming Wang:

This figures to be an easy decision for the Yankees, who don’t want to pay
Wang anything close to the $5 million he made last season. Wang is recovering
from shoulder surgery, and while some are speculating that he could be
pitching again by late-April, it’s more likely that he’ll return to the
mound in June or July.

The consensus seems to be that the Yankees will non-tender Wang, then try
to re-sign him to a smaller deal with some incentives. I don’t see that
happening. Wang is still privately upset that the Yankees took him to an
arbitration hearing two years ago over a difference of $600,000, then
bragged about their victory via a public statement. If the Yankees let him
go, there will be plenty of teams willing to give the two-time 19-game winner
a chance to prove himself. I don’t think we’ll see Wang in a Yankees
uniform again.
