Wang increases velocity in latest session

VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals right-hander Chien-Ming Wang had another bullpen
session Saturday and threw the ball harder than he did in his last one, which
was Thursday.
Wang is trying to make a comeback after missing more than a year because of
shoulder problems. Wang said he most likely will not pitch in a Major League
game until late April or sometime in May, but catcher Ivan Rodriguez was
encouraged by what he saw in Wang's latest session.
"The ball was moving a lot. He looks good to me," Rodriguez said. "He threw
a lot of strikes. His slider was breaking very nicely. His sinker was
breaking nicely. It had a nice late sink. He was pretty good."
Once Wang is healthy, the Nationals are hoping he can be the pitcher that
won a combined 38 games for the Yankees in 2006 and '07. Rodriguez believes
Wang could be a great addition to the pitching staff.
"He was tough back then," Rodriguez said. "When he comes back, he needs to
be 100 percent to pitch. We need him. He is a good guy to have."
Wang will have another bullpen session Monday.
