AIS-3 English Conversation Dialog 1 Guidelines
1. Each dialog group should have two, three, or four people in it. Each
person must have their own separate copy of the dialog to use during their
performance. Two or more people cannot use the same copy.
2. Use your copy of the dialog to help you remember your lines, but do not
just read the lines outloud. Instead, look down at your copy of the dialog to
help you remember, but then look up at your partner(s) and talk like in a
real conversation.
3. Give me a written copy of your dialog script at the beginning of the class
session when we are scheduled to perform the dialogs in class, before your
dialog performance. Do not type it. Write it by hand, and try to write the
alphabet letters and numbers in standard American-English-style manuscript
letters, not in Taiwanese-style English letters.
4. Only use complete sentences in your dialog. If someone asks you how you
are, do not just say "Fine.", instead say "I'm fine.".
5. Each dialog must use each of the six basic sentence types we have covered
in class. Each person in a dialog must say each type of sentence at least one
time. Make sure the grammar is right, and make sure these sentences and the
other sentences in your dialog are all said with the right basic intonation.
6. For each sentence in the dialog, mark down what type of sentence structure
it has, and mark down the pitch pattern of its basic sentence intonation, in
parentheses after the sentence, like for these three examples.
I see what you mean. (statement, mid gradually falling)
Please talk louder. (command, low abruptly falling)
Is that right? (yes/no question, high abruptly rising)
7. Each dialog must use vocabulary words from each unit of the textbook that
we cover up to the dialog performance week (Units 1, 2, 4, 8). For each unit,
use at least half of the target vocabulary words in that unit's Language
Review section. For example, Unit 2 has twenty target vocabulary words in its
Language Review section, so you must use at least ten of them in your dialog.
For another example, Unit 8 has seven target vocabulary words, so you must
use at least four of them in your dialog.
8. For each of the vocabulary words your dialog uses from the textbook, mark
down what unit it is from, in parentheses after the word, like for this
example.
Our company has a very good maternity (U1) leave (U1) policy (U2).
