Scouting Report:
The Cards' road warrior takes the ball at a stadium where he has never
pitched. Suppan has been much more effective away from home than at
Busch Stadium since coming to the Cardinals. However, in his only career
start against the Braves, he didn't make it out of the fourth inning.
When Suppan is on, he works quickly and pitches deep into games. When
he's not quite right, he can be very hittable.
Smoltz earned his first win as a starter since 2001 with a strong
performance against the Mets on Tuesday. He has posted a 1.93 ERA
and limited opponents to a .238 batting average in his past four starts.
