Edmonds update: Edmonds took some batting practice swings before Sunday's
game, and unlike the last time he tried to take BP, he actually made it
through his full turn. He's still in some pain, however, and will head back
to St. Louis for an examination on Monday before rejoining the team in
Cincinnati later in the day.
"It could be another week, it could be three more days, I don't really know,"
said Edmonds. "I'm not really concerned. It seems like it's on the verge of
getting better. I just don't know how hard to push."
The star center fielder has been unavailable to play since Monday as he tries
to recover from a hairline rib fracture, and the Cardinals are still in a
quandary as to whether to place him on the disabled list, since he might soon
be healthy enough to play again.
"Hopefully, he'll have a good exam and we can get him back tomorrow night,
but he still had some discomfort," said La Russa.
