http://0rz.tw/bb4JE PHOENIX -- Former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter will spend the rest of the 2008 season working out of the bullpen. Carpenter was activated off the 15-day disabled list on Monday and will be available in relief as soon as Tuesday for the Cardinals' second game of a series against the D-backs at Chase Field. Carpenter is returning from a slightly torn shoulder muscle that forced him out of his last start on Aug. 10. He made only three starts the entire year after having Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery last July. In his three starts, he had a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings. The right-hander hasn't pitched in relief since 2000, when he was with the Blue Jays, and has made just 19 relief appearances in his career. Carpenter threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday, which is 20 pitches fewer than his normal routine, so that he could be ready to throw in relief on Tuesday. "It's just a way of getting me in there and getting me some appearances at the end of the year," Carpenter said. "I'm looking forward to going there and pitching the way I can. I just want to get back out there." Carpenter didn't necessarily want to call the bullpen his new role and is prepared to spend the offseason preparing to become a starter again. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.114.207.222
