Wainwright Keeps October as Goal

The news on Adam Wainwright's rehab from Tommy John surgery continues to be
positive.
"Yeah, today we backed up to 90 feet, not as many throws but backed up a
little bit farther and everything went very good," said Wainwright, who had
previously thrown three sets of 25 tosses.
"We're trying to get good throwing mechanics back and get my arm comfortable
throwing a baseball again. I'm not trying to blow it out just yet," added
Wainwright who estimated he was at maybe 60 percent velocity on his throws.
"I have days where I feel better than others and every day seems to be an
improvement. I'm excited and positive about it. We'll just continue to try
and do more each day."
Wainwright also said the motivating force behind his previous comments of
hoping to be activated in time for the Cardinals' postseason roster.
"I don't know if it's realistic or not, but who wouldn't want to play in
October for the St. Louis Cardinals?. It's a goal of mine, simply because I
know it will make me work harder," he said.
He also took exception to the idea that the idea of a return would be to
avoid having $21 million worth of contract options for the next two seasons
voided by being on the disabled list.
He said, "I've seen articles posted that I'm doing it for the money or
whatever. Trust me, there's money involved but I'm very confident I'm going
to make money either way in this game.
"And it's not lost on me that I get to play a game for a living. I'm blessed
in more ways than I count and I'm going to push myself because I'll get the
most out of it that way."
Wainwright has been on the disabled list since March 25. The normal recovery
for Tommy John surgery is 12-18 months.
