After being tied at 23-23 through one quarter of play with the Cleveland
Cavaliers, the Houston Rockets pulled away for a 73-58 victory in Toshiba
Vegas Summer League action Saturday night.
The Rockets used a seven point second quarter advantage (16-9) to take a
39-32 lead at the half. Neither team broke the 20-point barrier in either of
their final three quarters of play, but Houston outscored Cleveland by eight
in the second half.
John Lucas had a game-high 23 points (9-16 FG) for Houston, while playing all
but 17 seconds of the contest. Pat Carroll collected 15 points (7-18 FG) and
was followed by Steve Novak's 13 and Matt Haryasz's 11 point efforts.
Cleveland had two players in double-digits with Shannon Brown dropping 19
(9-14 FG) and Sasha Pavlovic scoring 16 (6-14 FG).
Neither team shot exceptionally well, as both finished near the 40% mark. The
Rockets made 40.6% (26-64 FG) of their shots, while the Cavaliers were good
39.1% (25-64 FG) of the time.
Both teams have Sunday off and return to action on Monday afternoon.
Cleveland opens the day's action against the Golden State Warriors in the Cox
Pavilion at 12 p.m., while Houston plays Dallas at 2 p.m.
