Cavaliers hold meeting with free-agent forward

NBA executive says team talks with Reggie Evans

The Cavaliers are following up on their plans to explore free-agent options
other than Drew Gooden.

According to an NBA executive, the Cavs met Tuesday with free-agent forward
Reggie Evans at an undisclosed location outside of Cleveland.

Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry declined to comment. Evans' agent Dan Fegan
did not return a phone message.

Contract talks with Gooden, a restricted free agent, have been stalled for
several weeks. Even though the Cavs still want to re-sign him, the stalemate
has them evaluating all options.

Evans, who averaged 5.9 points and 7.5 rebounds last season, has been playing
a waiting game with the Denver Nuggets, who have been looking to re-sign him.
The Rocky Mountain News reported today that Nuggets coach George Karl will
meet with Fegan later this week.

The Nuggets and the Cavs have their $5.2 million mid-level exceptions to use
on Evans. But the Nuggets are just $3 million under the luxury tax line and
don't want to eclipse it. That is not an issue for the Cavs.

The Cavs might also seek to speak with Lorenzen Wright of the Memphis
Grizzlies in the near future.
