LeBron admits Shaq "tricked" him with slow start

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Thoughts following the Cavs' 105-89 victory over the
Memphis Grizzlies:

‧ Back in December after the Grizzlies beat the Cavs, 111-109, in overtime,
Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said he was actually glad to see the Cavs put
Shaquille O'Neal on the floor for the final possession so they could attack
him in a pick-and-roll. It worked and Michael Conley got a layup and won the
game.

回想去年十二月騎士在延長賽以109:111輸給灰熊時, 灰熊教練Lionel Hollins說他很高

The next night in Houston, Shaq was outplayed by the shortest starting center
in the NBA since the ABA merger (Chuck Hayes). Some people who really know
basketball, executive types, sent e-mails to me basically saying: "Looks like
Shaq is done."

隔天在休士頓的比賽, 大歐的表現被全聯盟最矮的中鋒Chuck Hayes給壓了過去, 不少籃
球專家寄信給Brian Windhorst說: "看起來大歐不行了."

It is easy to talk about it now because Shaq is playing wonderfully,
including his 13 points and 13 rebounds Tuesday against the Grizzlies. He is
looking spry, he's shooting at a high percentage again and he's fitting into
the offense and defense perfectly.

The company line has been that the plan all along was to bring the big man
along slowly and then let him turn it up later in the season. That process
was sped up when Mo Williams and Delonte West went down with injury, it is
often said. Mike Brown takes the blame for Shaq not making the All-Star team
because he said he purposely held him back.

All of that may be true. The Cavs have closely watched his minutes and worked
to keep them down. But there's little doubt that there was significant
concern back in December after Shaq returned from his shoulder injury. He
wasn't making shots, which was one problem, but even though he was in pretty
good shape he wasn't affecting the game much at all.

After this game, LeBron James pretty much gave it away talking about how well
O'Neal has been playing. You can tell by the quote that he was concerned at
some point as well.

"He had a different mindset than we all thought. We all thought he was
playing slow and he was just saving it," James said. "He tricked all of us, I
guess."

‧ LeBron finished the game with 15 assists, which tied his career high.
Don't think for a second he didn't know that. In the fourth quarter he was
clearly trying to get No. 16. In his last couple of minutes on the court, the
Cavs had him at the "nail" position in the high post against the Grizzlies'
zone, where he can be most effective as a passer. After the game he razzed
Daniel Gibson about missing two open 3-pointers in the second half that would
have been the difference.

By the way, seven times in the last 11 games LeBron has had at least 11
assists. With him controlling the ball so much and many of his teammates
shooting well, this is the type of performance that some predicted could
someday have him average a triple double.

‧ It was hard to tell whether Zach Randolph just had a bad night playing his
fourth game in five nights or whether the Cavs truly shut him down. Anderson
Varejao did a strong job and helped Randolph turn the ball over five times.
But there was no missing how much effort J.J. Hickson gave on defense.

很難說Zach Randolph這場只是表現失常還是騎士的防守真的壓制了他.大V守得很好並造

Randolph was just 3-of-14 shooting and he missed a handful of open jumpers he
makes most nights. But Hickson worked very hard denying him position in the
post. Brown even complimented Hickson on his defense publicly after the game.
That was a shocker; in fact it may be the first time Brown has ever done
that. Usually he finds ways to blame Hickson.

Zach Randolph只有3-14的命中, 錯過許多的空檔跳投. JJ在低位對他的卡位做得很好.
Brown賽後甚至特別稱讚JJ這場的防守, 令人相當驚訝, 事實上這可能是Brown第一次稱讚
JJ的防守, 通常都是在批評他.
