CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavaliers have played eight and a half games without
Shaquille O'Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskas now and they have lost just one time,
and that was a game they played without LeBron James.

Is it because O'Neal and Ilgauskas are really overrated, superfluous or
non-impactful? Not exactly.

It is because Anderson Varejao is going through the most prolific offensive
streak of his career to fill in the gaps left by the missing centers.

Sunday Varejao earned plenty of praise for his usual energetic play. His
ability to keep loose balls alive and chase down rebounds was invaluable. The
Cavs had a season-high 27 second-chance points and Varejao had six of those
17 difference-making offensive rebounds in the Cavs' 104-93 victory over the
Boston Celtics.

But while all of that is important to the Cavs efforts, it is Varejao's
standard. What isn't is what the Brazilian is doing to replace the missing
O'Neal, who was a staple of the offense before a thumb injury knocked him out
three weeks ago.

After making 6-of-8 shots against the Celtics, Varejao is now shooting a
sizzling 75 percent (47-of-63) in the nine games since O'Neal went down. He's

for a guy with a 60 percent career average.

pick-and-rolls for years, it is just finding the space and making the

Jamison feeling good: Antawn Jamison returned to the lineup after missing a
game and a couple practices with a stiff left knee. He didn't shoot well,
going 6-of-17 from the field and 1-of-7 from 3-point range, but finished with
15 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. He said the knee is feeling better and
he's not planning on missing any more games because of it.

Sore eye: James suffered a scare when Kevin Garnett poked him in the left eye
on a drive to the basket in the third quarter. James initially was in some
pain and the Cavs had to take a timeout to allow him to get some treatment.

"I was lucky to be able to finish the game off," said James, who had a
headache after the game from the hit. "It stayed blurry for about 15

LeBron on Shaq: Some fans have been nervous that O'Neal hasn't been around
the team for the last two weeks as he recovers from thumb surgery at home in
Orlando. James said he is sure O'Neal is taking care of himself and staying
in shape.

"I'm giving him his space," James said. "He knows how to police himself,
