A good day became a better one for the Celtics yesterday. As newcomer
Mikki Moore was taking his physical and signing his contract, the club
learned that Stephon Marbury had reached agreement with the New York Knicks
on a buyout.

對塞爾提克來說,昨天他們的表情只能用"A_A"來形容,他們得到了Mikki Moore,同時
Marbury也正式被尼克買斷.


Machinations aside for the moment, it means the Celts will have two major
areas of concern addressed before the week is over.

The Knicks put Marbury on waivers late yesterday, and depending on when that
information was recorded at the NBA office, he could clear and become a free
agent as early as Thursday. Marbury will then - barring any last-minute
glitches - become a Celtic.

According to an executive with another team, “I don’t see how this doesn’
t happen, but I guess that’s always a possibility. I just think this is all
set - and I think it’s going to work out better than a lot of people expect.
”

Director of basketball operations Danny Ainge had no comment on Marbury,
noting that Marbury is not free until the waiver process is completed. But
Ainge has expressed strong interest in the guard before, and the two sides
were able to talk when the Knicks gave Marbury permission to discuss deals
with other teams in hope it would motivate him to reach an agreeable buyout
figure.

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, meanwhile, said in a statement, “The Celtics
are focused on defending our championship and are working day and night to
finalize our playoff roster. We don’t have anything to announce at this
point except that we intend to do everything we can to raise Banner 18.”

According to published reports, Marbury is giving up more than $2 million of
his $20.8 million contract for this season to move on from New York.

大少將少拿200萬左右從他的年薪20.8M中.


Like Moore, Marbury would receive from the C’s a prorated portion of the
veteran minimum of around $1.3 million. The league picks up almost one-third
of the tab for such contracts.

如同Moore,大少將從塞爾提克那裏得到130萬的底薪合約.


There is little risk for the Celtics, and the two could potentially provide
the kind of postseason veteran assistance that James Posey and P.J. Brown did
last year, but with different skill sets. Moore is a lively 7-footer who can
score, while Marbury would be expected to back up Rajon Rondo [stats] at the
point and complement Eddie House off the bench.

此舉可讓他們從失去Posey和P.J. Brown的損失中降到最低,有的7呎高的長人Moore,大少
可以補足Rondo和House的缺失.
