Ainge: I was unprofessional
Danny Ainge, after taking time to think about his now-infamous towel toss
during Game 2, today called his attempt to distract J.J. Hickson at the free
throw line unprofessional.
“What I’m most regretful about is that our team is playing well, and people
are talking about a towel being thrown,’’ said the Celtics president of
basketball operations. “I shouldn’t draw attention away from our team like
that. It was unprofessional. It’s not something I’ll lose a lot of sleep
over, but it’s something I regret.’’
But the moment was good for several laughs on the team.
“I just heard it this morning from (Ainge),’’ said Paul Pierce. “He’s
just a fan of the game.’’
Said Doc Rivers: “I didn’t know about it. I was up in my dungeon doing my
work and my cell phone was going off and off. So when I saw it I got a good
laugh. He was going back to his playing days.’’
Rajon Rondo was equally forgiving when he said, “I didn’t see it, (but) they
’re fans. They obviously have a lot of faith in this team. Nothing is wrong
with it – he’s just a fan.’’
