Kevin Garnett seriously considered retirement before reaching
agreement with the Boston Celtics on a three-year contract.

Kevin Garnett再與波士頓塞爾堤克隊續簽三年合約前曾認真考慮退休事宜。

Instead of rebuilding, the Celtics decided to retool to remain a contender.

塞爾堤克隊今夏選擇重組三巨頭再出發，而非步入重建球隊。

“I did give it some real thought,” he said. “With free agency
  coming up, I obviously didn’t want to think about another team
  or nothing like that. My retirement would have been a personal
  decision based on family or any other reasons I had.

Garnett：

「我沒給過他我的想法，隨著自由球員市場的開市到來，
  我從沒想過要到什麼球隊，甚至有點想退休好好陪陪家人。」

“But my No. 1 reason for coming back was Doc, the guys, the city,
  the fans. I don’t know how Danny [Ainge] talked me into three years,
  but I’m enjoying my journey here.”

Garnett:

「讓我回來的唯一原因就是因為Doc(Rivers)、隊友們、波士頓城以及粉絲們。
  我不知道Danny(Ainge)怎麼說服我簽這三年合約、我也忘了，我只知道我愛這裡。」

Because the Celtics advanced to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals,
Ainge had very little time to consider the direction of the roster moving
forward.

由於塞爾堤克隊上一季在東區冠軍賽與熱火大戰七場才分出勝負，
導致Ainge其實沒什麼時間能考慮怎麼弄出這季的名單。

“I was open to anything, but I was prepared for a lot,” said Ainge,
the team’s president of basketball operations. “But ultimately when
  we went through all of the different possibilities and options that
  we had, the best option for us was to try to get KG, Jeff [Green],
  Brandon [Bass], and Ray back. And that’s what we set out to do.”

總管Ainge表示：

  「一切都有可能，我想了很多。在我考慮了多種組合的可行性後，我還是認
    為該讓KG、Jeff(Green)、Brandon(Bass)及Ray(Allen)再回來一起打拼。」

Garnett told Ainge and Rivers that he would make a decision by July 1.

Garnett跟Ainge及Rivers說他會在7/1給答案。

“What made it a little bit easier for us was KG was the main piece,”
Ainge said. “For a lot of reasons, but the replacement possibilities
  for KG were slim. We felt like that was big. If we get KG back, we
  have a chance of still being a good team.”

Ainge:

  「我們這些球員們最重要的就是KG了，不管怎樣，KG是不能動的。
    而且我認為只要KG回來了，我們就仍然是一隻具有競爭力的球隊。」

“When he signed a three-year contract, I felt like that guaranteed
  me another two years with the Celtics,” said Pierce. “There’s a
  domino effect in everything that goes on. If KG doesn’t sign, Ray
  signs with Miami, they probably look to trade me.”

Pierce：

  「我看到他簽下三年合約時，心中放下一顆大石頭『呼，我至少還能留在這兩年』
    就如同骨牌效應。如果KG沒留下來，Ray也跑去邁阿密，可能就換我被交易了。」

“KG was the key — not to say KG is more important than other players
  on our team — but there just aren’t big guys that are as good as KG,”
Ainge said. “The replacement of KG is tough and we’re grateful that he
  wanted to come back and play.

Ainge：

 「KG就是關鍵。KG不僅是我們隊上最重要的球員，我們也沒辦法找到比他更棒的
   大塊頭了。他太難以取代了，我們很感激他選擇回來隊上。」

“I think a lot did hinge on KG. We have some good young players but, yeah,
  we probably would not have been a contender had KG chosen to retire.”

「我想了很多關於KG的事。我們是有很多不錯的年輕球員們，
  但若KG選擇退休我們可能很難保持這麼好的競爭力。」
