BLUES SECURE ALEX OPTION

PSV Eindhoven have confirmed Chelsea have secured an option on their
recent capture from Brazilian club Santos, Alex.
Chelsea had been prominent in the race for the signature of the Samba
star, but reports suggested the London club stepped back in order to let
PSV land the defender.
It was added that Chelsea had secured an option to sign the Brazilian
later in his career, possibly in 2006.
PSV have completed the deal for the defender and president Harry van
Raaij has confirmed Chelsea have paid a premium to secure his services in
the future.
"It was not just PSV who were in for Alex," van Raaij told the club's
website. "Chelsea and other clubs were also interested.
"Therefore we came to a compromise agreement with Chelsea. Chelsea has
an option to buy Alex, accordingly they have paid an amount of money.
"I had contact with their director Peter Kenyon, I know him from his
period at Manchester United, where I negotiated with him about Ruud van
Nistelrooy.
"In the football sense it is good you can trust people, and I trust
Kenyon."
