'Valuable' Carvalho up for Euro award

Accompanying today’s Champions League draw are the UEFA European Football
Awards with Ricardo Carvalho and Frank Lampard in the running for a total of
three honours.
The awards are open to players who progressed beyond the group stage of last
season’s Champions League and Carvalho is one of three nominated for the top
Most Valuable Player prize. Fernando Morientes is also in contention for his
displays with Monaco along with Carvalho’s former Porto team-mate Deco.
The Chelsea centre-back will also battle out the Best Defender Award. He is up
against his international team-mate Jorge Andrade of Deportivo La Coruna and
Monaco left-back Patrice Evra.
Frank Lampard is on the short-list for Best Midfielder, the other names being
Patrick Vieira and Deco once again.
At the same ceremony in Monaco tonight, Jose Mourinho will be presented with a
special medal for winning the Champions League.
