Maka postpones international retirement

Claude Makelele has been included in the France squad to play Euro 2008
qualifiers against Georgia and Italy.


It was thought the Chelsea midfielder would bring the curtain down on his
international career having played on the losing side in the World Cup Final
back in July.


However in the squad named today (Thursday), Makelele is included along with
William Gallas.


The 33 year-old previously announced he was quitting Les Bleus in September
2004 but was persuaded to return a year later by coach Raymond Domenech to
help revive a flagging qualification campaign for Germany ‘06.


Makelele has 50 France caps, 26 won while a Chelsea player.


France play Georgia away on September 2nd before a re-match of the World Cup
Final against Italy in the Stade de France on September 6th.
