Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Nicolas Anelka has
signed a one-year extension to his existing contract that will keep him at
the club until 2012.
The 31-year-old forward said:
'When I first came to Chelsea I wanted to
stay much longer than what I did in the past with other clubs.
'It is a big club, you play with big players and I like this club, I like
London. There is no need to move anymore and so I am very glad to sign a
new contract and I know we will play in big games and win titles. I am
very glad.'
Manager Carlo Ancelotti added:
'Nicolas is a fantastic player who has good
technical qualities and movement.
'When I was coach at Juventus I wanted to buy him, so it is good now he
has signed for me and I think Chelsea is his home. I look forward to
working with him for one year more.'
Anelka has appeared 123 times in Chelsea colours, since arriving from
Bolton in 2008, scoring 42 goals.

ANELKA: MORE OF THE SAME

Having yesterday put pen to paper on an extra year at Chelsea, Nicolas
Anelka has been telling us why he feels so settled at Stamford Bridge.
The forward has been a key player for the Blues since his arrival from
Bolton in January 2008, providing a subtle alternative to Didier Drogba's
powerful style of play in the final third of the pitch.
In his two-and-a-half years with Chelsea, Anelka has so far played 123
times and has an impressive 42 goals to his name, as well as the 2008/09
Barclays Premier League Golden Boot.
He has never played as much, or scored as many, for another club, and
believes he has found a place to stay, as he explained when he signed his
new deal.
Anelka is currently on holiday before returning to pre-season training at
Cobham, but before he left he outlined his plan for 2010/11.
'I aim to score goals and win more titles,' he smiled.
'This is the most
important thing for everybody, and to enjoy my football and give pleasure
to the fans because they come to the games, they want to see good football,
they want to see goals, they want to see wins, so this is what I will try
to do and we will try to do as a team.
'We start in the league at home to West Brom, and it is nice to start at
home - there will be a lot of fans there like always, it will not be an
easy game against this kind of team who are newly promoted, but we have a
big team and we will do our job.'
The 31-year-old believes working alongside Carlo Ancelotti has helped
bring out his best form, which saw him contribute 15 goals last season, as
well as laying on many more for team-mates.
'He won a lot of things in Italy, and you know when you speak with someone
like him, he understands what you want and you understand what he wants,'
Anelka explained.
'It is simple to work with him, easy.
'I know he tried to sign with me for Juventus, but I signed in Real Madrid,
but now I am very glad to be here with him, he is a good person, a very
good manager and I am glad to be here with him.'
Here's hoping the next two years are as fruitful as their first together.
