Chelsea stopper Petr Cech believes experience – and age - could be a key
factor behind Chelsea’s bid to regain their Barclays premier League crown
next season.
Age has been a hot topic at Stamford Bridge in recent months, with many
people suggesting the Blues need to start investing in young talent.
The appointment of 33-year-old Andre Villas-Boas also raised question marks,
but for different reasons.
Are the likes of Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard too old – is the new
manager too young? It’s all a load of nonsense as far as keeper Petr Cech is
concerned, and not an issue amongst those at the Bridge.
“I don’t think we are an old squad, we still have young players. We have a
few players who have reached 30-years-old but I think a player that reaches
31 or 32 is not an old player," the Czech Republic international told
talkSPORT.
"Age is not a limit, it is the quality. Van der Sar was 40 and you could see
how well he could play. I don’t think it is about age, it is about how
players play if they keep fit and continue to deliver the performances."
The stopper believes experience could, in fact, be beneficial to Chelsea's
Barclays Premier League title challenge, and it could help the club win every
competition they compete in next term.
“We have a lot of experience and it can be to our advantage. The motivation
is to win as many trophies as we can. Throughout the season you can’t choose
the competition because you never know what can happen in football," he
continued.
"We will try to go and win everything and we will see what the outcome is at
the end of the season."
