MCEACHRAN`S ENGLAND WINS
Posted on: Wed 01 Jun 2011
Josh McEachran played a vital role in England's Under 19s win over
Montenegro last night.
The Three Lions got their European Under 19 Championship Elite Qualifying
Round off to a flying start with a 1-0 win over Montenegro, thanks to a
Harry Kane goal in the 51st minute.
Damir Ljuljanovic put in a fine performance between the posts for
Montenegro, twice denying McEachran and keeping the deficit to one. He
also blocked a George Thorne shot following a McEachran corner.
McEachran was involved from the off before being subbed in the 79th minute.
England's win takes them to second place in the group after Spain beat
Switzerland 2-1.
Only one team from the group will progress to the European Championship
Finals. England's battle for top spot will continue on Thursday afternoon,
when the side face Switzerland.

MIKEL'S NIGERIAN SUCCESS
Posted on: Thu 02 Jun 2011
John Mikel Obi played the entire 90 minutes for Nigeria on Wednesday
night, as they pulled an experimental Argentina side apart in Abuja,
winning 4-1.
The Chelsea man, wearing his side's number 10 jersey, formed a steadying
presence in his side's midfield as they ran amok, Ike Uche scoring twice,
West Ham's Victor Obinna netting a penalty and Emanuel Emenike making it
four, before Mauro Boselli, formerly of Wigan Athletic, pulled a
consolation goal back in injury time for the South Americans.
It is worth noting that Argentina's squad featured only a couple of the
players named in their Copa America squad for this summer's tournament on
home soil.
At Under 21 level, Fabio Borini was a 50th minute sub for Italy in the
Toulon Tournament. They were 2-0 winners against Ivory Coast, but the
Chelsea man, who sealed promotion to the Premier League with Swansea on
Monday, did not score.

INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP: MALOUDA NETS FOR FRANCE
Posted on: Fri 03 Jun 2011
Florent Malouda scored France's only goal during their 1-1 draw with
Belarus on Friday night, as four Blues represented their nations in
international matches.
The Frenchman netted the equaliser three minutes after Belarus' opener,
drilling a left-footed effort inside the far post. The goal came after
some good football from Karim Benzema and Bacary Sagna and rounded off a
fine performance from Malouda.
France went one down through an Eric Abidal own-goal but still top Group D
in the Euro 2012 qualifiers by a four-point lead.
Michael Essien's Ghana beat a 10-man Congo 3-1 in their African Cup of
Nations qualifier. Chelsea's number 5 played 73 minutes for his country
before being substituted for Derek Boateng. The win takes Ghana three
points clear of second-place Sudan in Group I.
All the goals came in the last half-hour of the game, with Issac Vorsah
and Prince Tagoe giving the Black Stars a 2-0 lead. Fabrice N'Guessi
lowered the deficit for Sudan but Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu put the game
beyond reach with Ghana's third.
In the Kirin Cup, Petr Cech kept a clean sheet against Peru in Japan,
having the post to thank when Jefferson Farfan beat him with a late drive,
only for the ball to come back out off the woodwork. The game finished 0-0,
and Czech Republic play Japan on Tuesday in the final game.
Gokhan Tore was an unused sub for Guus Hiddink's Turkey, who drew 1-1 away
to Belgium in another Euro qualifier. The result means Turkey are now one
point behind second-place Belgium in Group A.
Turkey trailed after three minutes, when Marwin Ogunjimi fired past Volkan
Demirel. The visitors pulled a goal back after 22 minutes when Burak
Yilmaz tapped in from close-range. Belgium had a chance to go ahead again
on 73 minutes, only for Axel Witsel to shoot over from the penalty spot.
Milan Lalkovic played a full 90 minutes for Slovakia's Under 21s, who beat
Latvia 2-0 in a European Under 21 Championship qualifier. The win puts
Slovakia top of Group 9 with three points. Juraj Vavrik and Lukas Stetina
were the scorers in that game.
Elsewhere in the Toulon Tournament, Fabio Borini played all 90 minutes of
Italy Under 21s' 1-1 draw with Portugal, while Josh McEachran was subbed
midway through England Under 19s' 3-2 win over Switzerland.

INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP: THREE GOALS, ONE INJURY AND A RED CARD
Posted on: Sat 04 Jun 2011
It was an unbeaten Saturday for Chelsea's internationals in their European
Championship qualifiers.
England's trio of captain John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole had a
mixed afternoon, falling two goals behind against Switzerland at Wembley
before clawing back to draw 2-2.
Cole was forced off through injury just after the half-hour following a
challenge on Valon Behrami, and England quickly conceded twice from two
Tranquilo Barnetta free-kicks.
A Lampard penalty, struck low to the goalkeeper's right put England back
into the game before half-time, only for the midfielder to be replaced at
the break by manager Fabio Capello, substitute Ashley Young grabbing an
England equaliser in the second period.
Terry completed the 90 minutes admitted afterwards that England were
disappointed with the result and to have conceded twice at home.
'From a defender's point of view it's disappointing anyway to concede two
goals from set plays, we felt they were a small side and we could get a
couple of goals from set plays at the other end, but that wasn't to be.
It's something we need to look at and it needs addressing,' he said.
'We're not coming out to find an excuse, we should have won the game and
had enough chances to.'
England lead their European Championship qualifying group by a point from
Montenegro, who have a game in hand.
Elsewhere Yury Zhirkov completed 90 minutes for Russia in their 3-1
victory over Armenia in St Petersburg, the left-winger winning a penalty
for the third goal as Tottenham's Roman Pavlyuchenko struck a hat-trick.
That leaves Russia three points clear of Ireland at the top of Group B.
Israel captain Yossi Benayoun opened the scoring for his country away in
Latvia, finishing first-time after a neat passing move, and former Chelsea
man Tal Ben-Haim struck a penalty for the Israelis as they ran out 2-1
winners. Benayoun completed the 90 minutes, and the win leaves them second
in Group F, two points adrift of leaders Croatia who have a game in hand.
Jose Bosingwa was not in the matchday squad for Portugal's game against
Norway.
In two friendly games, Fernando Torres came off the bench at half-time to
score Spain's fourth in their 4-0 win against America, while starter
Ramires was sent off for a second bookable offence, a foul on former Blue
Arjen Robben, with 11 minutes remaining in Brazil's 0-0 draw with Holland.
The midfielder had earlier gone close with a long-range effort. Both David
Luiz and Jeffrey Bruma were unused subs.

INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP: DROGBA AND STURRIDGE SCORE
Posted on: Sun 05 Jun 2011
Didier Drogba helped the Ivory Coast qualify for next year's Africa Cup of
Nations with a brace against Benin today (Sunday).
The Elephants smashed their opponents 6-2, meaning their place in 2012's
competition is secured despite having two more qualifying games to play.
Ivory Coast have now accumulated a maximum 12 points from their first four
qualifying games.
Drogba netted his nation's second goal after 22 minutes, following Didier
Konan's opener in the 13th minute. Gervinho then scored, giving the Ivory
Coast a 3-0 half-time lead before Benin came back with two Stephane
Sessegnon goals in quick succession.
A Drogba penalty then made it 4-2 after 75 minutes before Gervinho secured
his brace after 81. The Elephants then added a sixth in the 90th minute.
Salomon Kalou was not involved.
Also in Africa, John Mikel Obi played 90 minutes for his nation, who were
held to a 2-2 draw with Ethiopia. Nigeria are now three points behind
Group B leaders Guinea in their campaign to qualify for the 2012 Africa
Cup of Nations.
Ikechukwu Uche put Nigeria ahead after 27 minutes but goals just before
and after half-time by Saladin Seid put the home side in front. Nigeria
managed to pull a goal back four minutes from time when Everton's Joseph
Yobo struck.
Daniel Sturridge (pictured) was an early goalscorer against Norway for
England's Under 21s, captained by the Hamburg-bound Michael Mancienne.
Also involved were Ryan Bertrand and Jack Cork, who each played a half in
the 2-0 win.
Bertrand started, playing the first-half before making way for Kieran
Gibbs, while Cork came on at half-time, replacing Fabrice Muamba.
Sturridge netted the opener after nine minutes, capitalising on a Bertrand
cross and tapping in from close range. Danny Rose finished the scoring for
England, drilling home after 40 minutes of football. Mancienne played the
whole game while Sturridge came off for Nathan Delfounso on 65 minutes.
An injury to Josh McEachran meant he took no part in England Under 19s'
1-1 draw against Spain that means that age group has failed to qualify for
the European Championship Finals for the first time since 2007. Despite
the young England side having won their previous two matches, Spain
qualify due to a superior goal difference.
Fabio Borini played 90 minutes for Italy U21s v Colombia U21s in the
Toulon Tournament. The match was a 1-1 draw.

INTERNATIONALS: CECH SHINES, TORRES AND DAVID LUIZ WIN
Posted on: Tue 07 Jun 2011
Petr Cech carried his club form onto the international stage on Tuesday
night in Japan when he proved unbeatable to earn Czech Republic a share of
the annual Kirin Cup.
The Chelsea Player of the Year produced a string of outstanding
second-half saves to keep out the host nation. One save from a header and
a follow-up block drew gasps of admiration from the crowd in Yokohama.
The game ended 0-0, as did the Czech Republic's meeting with Peru on
Friday. With another stalemate in Japan v Peru ensuring the three-team
tournament ended without a single goal, the sides ended with identical
records.
Fernando Torres was a 63rd minute substitute for Spain in their 3-0
friendly away in Venezuela, all the goals coming in the first half. David
Luiz played from the start in Brazil's 1-0 home win over Romania, a match
that acted as a farewell for their legendary striker Ronaldo, who retired
last season. Ronaldo played 15 minutes of the game in Sao Paulo but missed
three chances. Ramires did not play following his red card in the weekend
game.
Yury Zhirkov was a 55th minute sub in Russia's 0-0 draw with Cameroon, a
game played in Salzburg in Austria.
On Monday night, Florent Malouda was a second-half substitute as France
came back from one goal down to beat Ukraine 4-1 away in a friendly. The
score was 1-1 when the Chelsea man was one of three new players introduced
on 64 minutes. France scored three times in the final three minutes.

INTERNATIONALS: BRUMA BROUGHT ON
Posted on: Wed 08 Jun 2011
Jeffrey Bruma earned his second senior international cap on Wednesday when
he was a half-time substitute for The Netherlands in a match away to
Uruguay.
The 19-year-old made his first appearance for his nation's senior side
back in August when all the players who had featured in last summer's
World Cup were rested. On this occasion however it was closer to a
full-strength side.
The game, a rematch of two semi-finalists from the World Cup, ended 1-1
with both sides scoring late on. Liverpool pair Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt
got the goals. Bruma joined former Chelsea player Khalid Boulahrouz in the
Dutch defence while Arjen Robben remained on the bench.
As the match was part of a mini-tournament (Bruma having been an unused
sub in the weekend game against Brazil), the result was decided by penalty
shoot-out with Uruguay winning that 4-3. Bruma did not take one of the
spot-kicks.

INTERNATIONALS: FLO’S FRANCE FINISH
Posted on: Fri 10 Jun 2011
Florent Malouda completed the senior international action for Chelsea
players for the 2010/11 season when he was a late substitute in France's
1-0 win away in Poland on Thursday night.
In what was the third of three fixtures for the French in eastern Europe,
Malouda came on in the 73rd minute for goalscorer Charles N'Zogbia. He
created his side's final chance which was saved by Arsenal keeper Wojciech
Szczesny.
Chelsea involvement does continue this weekend at Under 21 level when
England begin their quest to win the European Championships which are
being held in Denmark.
Ryan Bertrand, Jack Cork and Daniel Sturridge are in the squad with the
recently departed Michael Mancienne and former Blue Scott Sinclair also in
Stuart Pearce's party.
Competition for Bertrand for the left-back slot decreased this week when
Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs withdrew due to injury.
England Under 21s' first game is on Sunday when they face Spain (kick-off
7.45pm UK time). They then play Ukraine on Wednesday and Czech Republic
the following Sunday.
Fabio Borini will be back in the Italy Under 21 squad to contest a third-
fourth play-off against Mexico on Friday evening in the annual Toulon
Tournament. He was suspended for a semi-final defeat by France.
Ramires and David Luiz are in the Brazil Squad that will contest the Copa
America (South America's equivalent to the European Championships) which
runs between 1 July and 24 July in Argentina.
