Andre Villas-Boas has suggested that if the right players are available at
the right prices, he would like two new signings to come to Chelsea in the
January transfer window.
Negotiations are on-going to sign Gary Cahill for whom the club has agreed
a fee with Bolton Wanderers. If successful, that addition would fulfil the
need for a new centre-back and speaking in Scotland where he was assisting
with the Scottish FA Cup draw, Villas-Boas said:
'Apart from the central defender, we might get one more player in but I am
not sure yet. It is always difficult in January. The top talent is
cup-tied normally in the Champions League or in different domestic
competitions. It is difficult for the selling club to make players
available so it is normal that it should be a struggle in the January
transfer market.
'Normally it is a market when you over pay a lot,' he added,
'and that is
what we don't want to do now. That is why we have set out not to do a lot
in the January market.'
Our manager carried out the fifth round draw in the Scottish Cup along
with former Italy manager Marcello Lippi. He is also in Scotland to speak
at a coaching course. In the past, Villas-Boas studied for professional
coaching qualifications in Scotland as well as in England.
The Chelsea first team squad return to training on Wednesday.
