Made several good saves.
Could do nothing about Chamakh's clinical first-time finish and made decent 
saves whenever else he was called upon.

Was influential up and down the flank.
Got forward enthusiastically and powerfully from right-back and screwed one 
good chance just wide from a delightful Mata backheel but his crossing from 
the flank is just not good enough to be a real threat.

Dodgy at times, but had a good game.
Positionally sound and did not take too many risks, though he perhaps might 
have been closer to Chamakh for the Palace goal.

A rock at the back.
Covered Luiz well and defended his penalty box pretty solidly, though he 
stood and watched Chamakh bring Palace level. Made a trademark saving 
clearance to prevent O'Keefe bringing Palace level again.

Didn't have too much impact.
Showed great energy on the left and overlapped Hazard at every opportunity, 
though the quality of his crossing inevitably declines on his weaker foot.

Scored a fantastic goal.
Tirelessly carried the fight from box to box and took his goal brilliantly, 
leaving Speroni stranded with a wonderful curler into the top corner from the 
edge of the area. Missed two sitters in the last 10 minutes which would have 
killed the game.

Decent game in midfield.
Avoided giving away a goal in the first minute - an instant improvement on 
his last start against Cardiff - and made smart interceptions and short 
passes all afternoon. Got away with only a yellow card after a two-footed 
lunge in the second half.

Created some good chances.
Finally looks a coherent part of this Chelsea team. Set an example with his 
pressing and worked back impressively. Also unleashed the fierce low shot 
which led to Torres' opener.

Had a quiet game compared to his usual high standards.
Showed moments of class - his backheeled nutmeg to set Ivanovic racing into 
the box was a delight - but this was not his most inspired day. Replaced by 
Oscar just after the hour.

Terrific display. Involved in both his sides goals.
Tormented Mariappa all game and, though he did not work Speroni himself, his 
actions were direct and slick. Fed Ramires for the second Chelsea goal.

Scored a goal, but didn't really influence the game.
Did not get a huge amount of direct service but showed good anticipation to 
follow up Willian's shot and sweep in the rebound. Given a standing ovation 
on his withdrawal.

Didn't really make an impact.
Replaced Mata on the hour but struggled to affect the game any more than the 
Spaniard. Perhaps still feeling the effects of that ankle injury?

Was denied a certain goal.
Came on for Willian with eight minutes left and shot disappointingly straight 
at Speroni when put through.

Could have scored if not for a terrific save.
Replaced Torres in the 84th minute and was denied a goal by a brilliant 
Speroni save
