Under-21s to take part in new international cup

Chelsea's Under-21 side will be one of 16 teams competing in a new
international competition involving young sides from across Europe.
The Premier League International Cup has launched today, with the new
tournament helping those in the 18-21 age group experience competitive
football against European opposition.
Chelsea have been drawn in a four-team group alongside Norwich, Porto and
Borussia Monchengladbach. We will play those teams once and the winners
and runners-up from each of the four groups will progress to the knock-out
stages. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will all be one-legged
ties.
All matches in the tournament will be played in England, with group stage
matches to take place between 15 October (today) and 31 January 2015. West
Ham United play Athletic Bilbao in the first match tonight.
Teams competing in the Premier League International Cup will be filled
with Under-21 players, though up to three outfield players and the
goalkeeper can be over 21.
The English clubs involved in the tournament are Chelsea, Everton, Fulham,
Leicester City, Norwich City, Manchester City, Sunderland and West Ham
United.
The full list of international teams taking part are Athletic Bilbao,
Benfica, Borussia Monchengladbach, Celtic, Schalke, Porto, PSV Eindhoven
and Villarreal.
A full fixture programme will be announced in due course.
