Tyrus Thomas may return to Chicago Bulls' starting lineup

Maybe Tyrus Thomas will start after all.

The Bulls disclosed Tuesday that rookie forward Taj Gibson has been battling
plantar fasciitis in his left foot for much of this season and visited a team
physician for treatment after missing Tuesday's practice.

Though the injury isn't considered serious, coach Vinny Del Negro said
Gibson's availability for Thursday's game in Boston would be determined later.

"He's feeling better, but the plantar fasciitis has bothered him and he needs
some treatment," Del Negro said. "He just really irritated it the other night
in a game."

If Gibson is sidelined, Thomas would reclaim the starting power forward spot
he basically lost to injury and Gibson's steady play.

"Tyrus played well (Monday against the Pistons) and had a good practice
(Tuesday) too," Del Negro said. "He was under control. I loved his activity."

Indeed, Thomas tallied a career-high six steals in just 26 minutes against
the Pistons. This came just one game after Del Negro pulled Thomas quickly
after taking jumpers and committing turnovers against the Timberwolves, which
is why Del Negro was asked to clarify Thomas' role.

"Being athletic, running the court, hitting open 15-footers," Del Negro said.
"Not floating on the perimeter when he's at power forward. He has to just
play, not turn the ball over and be smart.

"Nothing's going on. When guys execute the game plan, play hard, do what
they're supposed to do and deserve to be out there, they're out there. When
guys aren't executing the game plan -- not just Tyrus, anybody -- they won't
be. You need to take good shots and not turn the ball over and play good,
solid basketball."

Century marks: At a time when the Bulls begin a stretch of 10 of 12 road
games, the offense finally is showing signs of consistency. They're averaging
103.8 points over the last eight games.

"We're doing a good job of moving and sharing the ball," guard Kirk Hinrich
said.

Del Negro credited healthier bodies leading to better practices.

"And our ball movement has been better," Del Negro said. " Derrick (Rose's)
ability to consistently attack off the pick-and-roll has spaced the floor and
got us better shots. We're able to play guys not as many minutes so they're
fresher."

Surf's up: After sitting courtside Monday night, Luc Longley visited the
Berto Center on Tuesday. Told that Longley once missed games because he broke
his collarbone while bodysurfing, the adventurous Joakim Noah smiled.

"I like that story a lot," Noah said. "I knew he looked like a cool dude. But
I grew up a Knicks fan so I really didn't like that dude. I remember all
those tip-ins he used to get."
