Bulls have big plans for Butler

The Bulls' backcourt will be the most fluid position on the team this
offseason, with the status of unrestricted free agents Nate Robinson and
Marco Belinelli uncertain and Richard Hamilton receiving a $1 million buyout.

But coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed one certainty: Jimmy Butler will be
starting next season.

"I don't see why not," Thibodeau said Friday. "The way he played this year,
he earned that spot. He has great versatility. He became much more confident
and competent — running pick-and-rolls, catch-and-shoot, putting it on the
floor, posting up. His improvement offensively was tremendous. And his
defense has gotten better and better, and will continue to improve."

Of course, there remains an outside chance Butler starts at small forward if
the Bulls were to trade Luol Deng. Kirk Hinrich could start at shooting guard
alongside Derrick Rose in that scenario.

Butler, whom Thibodeau said already talked about his summer plans Thursday,
will be starting somewhere.

"He had a terrific year and it started last summer," Thibodeau said. "His
commitment to work and improvement was special. You just love his attitude
and approach."

席總:他打出了一個驚人的球季,而且將坐穩先發,他的任務與進步都相當特別,

Bon voyage? Thibodeau said the free-agent market will determine whether
Belinelli or Robinson returns. Both are expected to draw interest beyond the
Bulls' financial plan.

Thibodeau called Belinelli's season "tremendous" and said adding shooting
would be an offseason priority. The Bulls will have the NBA taxpayer
salary-cap exception of just above $3 million if they choose to use it but
mostly will be filling the roster with veteran's minimum salaries.

"I would love to return," Robinson said. "But knowing the guys we have here,
there's probably limited space for me."

Hamilton credited teammates for helping him deal with falling out of the
playoff rotation until the final two games.

"I can play because what I do, nobody does. It's a lost art," Hamilton said.
"I can get my shot off on anybody because the league's getting younger but
guys don't really know the game. So it's easy."

team-supervised workouts and also participate in the Vegas Summer League.
