CHRISTINA AGUILERA IS 'BACK' ON THE TOP OF THE CHARTS

“Back To Basics” Debuts At # 1 On Multiple Retail Charts

Los Angeles, CA (August 23, 2006) – Pop superstar Christina Aguilera returns
to the top of the charts this week with her third critically acclaimed album,
Back To Basics, a double-disc set.  Landing at #1 on four of Billboard’s
charts with first-week sales of 345,518, this marks her best Soundscan entry
to date and the highest first-week sales of the year for a female solo
artist.   Back To Basics tops the Billboard 200, the Current R&B Overall
Album Chart, Digital Album Chart, Mass Merchant Chart.  Additionally it is
the #1 album in 85 Neilson Soundscan DMA markets and #1 on the Internet
Albums Chart.  This is Aguilera’s first #1 album since her 1999 self-titled
debut in the US.


Additionally, Back To Basics shipped over 2 million worldwide.  Less than a
week after its release, the album hit #1 in scores of countries including the
U.K., Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria,
Holland, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Thailand.  The album is also Top 5
in Denmark, Italy, Norway and Mexico.  Aguilera is also #1 in the digital
world.  Back To Basics has hit #1 on iTunes in the U.K., France, Switzerland,
Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden and Australia.


Back To Basics is led by the sexy upbeat single, “Ain’t No Other Man”
 which is currently at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The sizzling Bryan
Barber directed video consistently peaks at #1 on MTV’s TRL.  The
double-disc set, produced by DJ Premier and Linda Perry utilizes an
orchestra, choir, string quartet and jazz horns, as well as techniques that
offer a vintage sound and sensibility.  Christina Aguilera is scheduled to
perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 31st.


One of the most accomplished performers of the last decade, Christina
Aguilera has sold over 25 million albums worldwide, achieved four #1 singles
on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has won three Grammy Awards and a Latin
Grammy Award, as well as two top five albums in the United States. She has
collaborated with other great artists including Herbie Hancock, Andrea
Bocelli and Sean “Diddy” Combs.


A major contributor to the fight against AIDS, Aguilera has participated in
the “Whats Going On?” cover project for AIDS Project Los Angeles’ Artists
Against AIDS.  In 2004 she became the new face for the cosmetic company MAC
and spokesperson for MAC AIDS Fund. In 2005 Aguilera got involved in
awareness campaigns with YouthAIDS and ALDO. She also sponsors and is
actively involved in the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh
for battered women and children.
