正確來說同一個功能，其實有著不同的路徑。舉例來說，視覺歷程就有好幾個主要的路徑
。這種觀念叫做"redundancy"(多餘的意思)，這是從神經系統觀察到的。相同的功能有多
個路徑也有可能是一種保護的機制，預防有路徑損毀。
