Scouting report: The Angels the Tigers face this week is barely a shell of
what they were expected to be entering 2009. Los Angeles has had to deal with
the shocking death of Nick Adenhart and injuries to starting pitchers John
Lackey, Ervin Santana and Kelvim Escobar. And as if a depleted rotation
wasn't bad enough, the Angels lost All-Star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero last
week to a strained right pectoral muscle.

Scouting report: Kansas City boasts some of the best young pitchers in the
major leagues, but its offense leaves a lot to be desired. The Royals scored
only 14 runs through their first six games -- a major league low. Catcher
John Buck has been the team's lone offensive bright spot (three homers, nine
RBIs). Billy Butler has struggled, and Alex Gordon and Jose Guillen are
already on the 15-day disabled list.
