標題[情報] Tigers trade Clay Rapada to Rangers

INDIANAPOLIS -- They are not earth-movers, but they are moves.
The Detroit Tigers today traded left-handed reliever Clay Rapada to the Texas
Rangers for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
They also announced the signing to a major league contract of left-handed
reliever Brad Thomas, an Australian who pitched the last two years in Korea
and had a brief stay with the Minnesota Twins earlier in this decade.
Right-handed pitcher Zach Simons was sent outright to Triple-A Toledo,
opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for a potential Rule 5 selection here
Thursday at baseball’s winter meetings.
“Thomas has performed well over the past two seasons in Korea and we are
pleased to add a quality arm like him to our club,” Tigers general manager
Dave Dombrowski said. “He was a highly-regarded prospect earlier in his
career with the Twins organization and we feel he will contribute out of the
bullpen at the major league level.”
Thomas, 32, pitched in 11 games over the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons for
Minnesota, going 0-3 with a 9.89 ERA, 8 strikeouts and 18 walks in 23 2/3
innings. He originally signed in 1995 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and also
has pitched in the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners organizations.
He was 5-11 with a 2.86 ERA and 44 saves the last two seasons for Hanwha of
the Korean Baseball Organization, and also pitched for the Nippon Ham
Fighters in Japan. Thomas was 5-6 with a 4.21 ERA for the Ham Fighters in
2005 and 2006.
Thomas pitched for Australia in the 2000 Olympics and 2009 World Baseball
Classic.
Rapada, 28, pitched in three games for Detroit in 2009 and was 3-0 with a
5.00 in 32 games over parts of the last three seasons with the Tigers.
Simons was 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA last year for Triple-A Toledo and 1-2 with a
2.82 ERA for Double-A Erie.
