Yes, basically the only way to fix the BIOS 8254 issue is to
emulate I/O accesses to the 8254. Would someone be interested
in starting such a project? It would not actually be all that
difficult to do, though it does require some assembly knowledge.
The 8254 has 3 identical timers with something like 5 modes of
operation, counting, and latching state.
