my problem was setting the interface to a foreign net while I was on a
local dhcp, then checked (possibly the wrong) rc.conf in 3rd console
(before I got back to the menu) -- gave up when I saw the error, and
didn't see anything new in rc.conf

Think I got a good grip of it now. but appreciate the error message
update, just the same.
