    Active terminators typically have an LED. on them (supplied through
    the cable) so you know they have power.  Without power the terminator
    will not work properly.  I never buy active terminators unless they have
    an LED.  Note, however, that I haven't messed around with SCSI for 
    a couple of years, so things may have changed.
