So long as we are limited to the aspect ratio of the binocular
Mark One Human Eyeball for a toolset, readability is best served
by a more reasonable max width - VTXXX and other 130-column
displays, 'landscape' A4, the 35mm film format (purpose-selected
to match the sensitive area of human field of view, and nearly
100 years ago, at that [1]). Well documented long before VESA. [2]
