have a look at src/sys/boot/i386/libi386/biosdisk.c; bd_opendisk seems to d=
o=20
the major work. maybe you'll notice something if you compile boot with=20
=2DDDEBUG

now that seems okay. i should extend fdisk to also show extended slice=20
information.
