    Most of the sticks do not appear to support the serial number
    inquiry page.  I get nothing when I plug them in.

    I have verified that a real external hard drive connected via USB
    does probe the serial number.

    In anycase, I shifted all the usb attachments to da8 and greater
    so it shouldn't create any confusion if the system has less then 9
    real HDs.
