The mail patch needs to be functionally separated. The
minor syntactical cleanups have to be separated from the
new options additions. The reason for this is so other
projects can review and pull in just the new options work.
I recommend submitting the new options additions first,
waiting for it to get into the tree, then submitting
a cleanup pass.
