Hi, > If you were to retool your patch to leave the defaults in MAKEDEV and > add the /etc/devices.conf (or even the /etc/devices.conf and > /etc/defaults/devices.conf) capability, I would commit it in a heartbeat. > > -Matt Okay, check this out: http://bettlakenauszuzeln.magic-ceee.com/MAKEDEV3.tar.gz This version (like the original one) again contains the default ownership and permissions for all special files, so the /etc/defaults/devices.conf is no longer needed. But you still can have /etc/devices.conf for local overrides, this time working fine with wildcard entries like "sa*.ctl" or whatever. I cleaned up the entire script (argh!), burned down obsolete stuff and also attempted to make it more readable by reformatting the entire stuff, so the tarball does not contain a MAKEDEV patch set, but the new version of MAKEDEV itself (a patch changes almost every line in the script, so including the script itself IMHO is okay :) Also included are a slighty extended MAKEDEV(8) man page and a brand new devices.conf(5) man page. And there's a short /etc/devices.conf example file, too. Hope you find this as useful as I do. :) Enjoy the show --j ----------------------------------------------------- who | grep -i blonde | talk; cd ~; wine; talk; touch; unzip; touch; strip; gasp; finger; gasp; mount; fsck; more; yes; gasp; umount; make clean; sleep
