“He's a great hitter, but having to worry about slowing that guy down? I
don't think he’s going to be doing the same thing he did last year, to be
honest with you,” Webb said Saturday. “He's not going to be the person
we're going to let beat us.”
Asked if he was certain that Ramirez isn’t capable of duplicating last
season's performance, Webb held firm in his assertion.
“No, I honestly don't think so - unless it's a video game,” said Webb,
who is in line to pitch against Ramirez and the Dodgers on Saturday.
Strong words from a division foe. But Webb already has one Cy Young Award and
last year won a National League-best 22 games, so he a right to talk a little
smack.
Reminded, however, that a player such as Ramirez is likely to respond to such
comments, Webb just shrugged his shoulders.
“Yeah, well, that's all right,” he said. “ . . . Bring it.”
