D-backs land Marquis in deal with Nats
Arizona parts with Minor League infielder Walters to bolster staff

The D-backs acquired an extra arm for the second half on Saturday, trading
Minor League infielder Zach Walters to the Nationals in exchange for veteran
right-hander Jason Marquis. Marquis has gone 8-5 with a 3.95 ERA in 20 starts
for Washington and has allowed just eight home runs.

Walters, a ninth-round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, was
batting .302 with a .377 on-base percentage and a .485 slugging percentage
for Class A South Bend in the Midwestern League. Walters has played 49 games
at shortstop, but he's also seen action at second base and third base this
season.

Marquis owns a career record of 104-97 with a 4.52 ERA, and he pitched for
Atlanta, St. Louis, Colorado and Chicago prior to his stint with Washington.
Marquis went 2-9 with a 6.60 ERA through an injury-ravaged campaign with the
Nationals in 2010 but has rebounded this season.
