Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Who nemesis The Master?

Despite the Doctor's deadly foe having appeared in the show in
various guises since 1971, this will be the first time Matt
Smith's incarnation of the Time Lord will come to blows with
his biggest enemy as the BBC One sci-fi drama prepares to mark
half a century since it first hit screens next year.
With John Simm having last portrayed the role opposite David
Tennant's incarnation of the Doctor, it is thought the Sherlock
actor will be the 'perfect choice' to take on the role.
An insider explained: 'It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face
to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th
anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if
schedules can work.
'Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes
taking on the Doctor.'
While the Sherlock actor has previously been linked with the
role of the Time Lord, he has played down the prospect.
The source added to the Daily Express: 'Benedict has often been
asked about whether he would like to play the Doctor so it will
be ironic if he now ends up being The Master instead.'
Meanwhile, actor John Barrowman has previously admitted he is
keen for his character Captain John Harkness to return to the
BBC One series for its landmark anniversary in November 2013.
He told BANG Showbiz: 'It's the 50th anniversary coming up of
'Doctor Who' and Jack is an integral part to this story and,
if I'm going to be a little self-absorbed, I would hope he
would be involved, it would be a shame if he wasn't.'
