" Dodgers officials would not confirm that Alvarez, 35, had
spoken with DePodesta after the game about retiring nor would
they comment on whether he was making the trip to Washington.
But Alvarez was obviously frustrated with his continued
shoulder problems and indicated he might retire rather than
undergo surgery for a frayed labrum that has plagued him all
season. Alvarez lost portions of three seasons to shoulder
injuries before joining the Dodgers."
