道奇陣中最資深的球員Jason Repko已被球團釋出
目前40人名單只有36人
可能補入的是Anderson、Green、Weaver、Ramon Ortiz
Along with selling Eric Stults' contract to Hiroshima of the Japan League on
Wednesday, the Dodgers placed Jason Repko on release waivers, clearing two
spots on their 40-man roster. The Dodgers also reassigned pitcher Josh
Lindblom to Minor League camp.
Repko, 29, had been passed on the outfield depth chart by Xavier Paul. Repko
had stints in the Major Leagues in four of the last five seasons, missing
2007 entirely with a torn hamstring muscle.
"I'm not surprised. I've seen the writing on the wall for years -- there's no
space in the outfield," said Repko. "With the number of outfielders they
picked up in the offseason, something was going to happen."
Repko had been in the organization since 1999, when he was taken with a
supplemental Draft pick. A defensive specialist, Repko hadn't shown enough
offensive production in recent years to prevent the Dodgers from signing Reed
Johnson as the fourth outfielder after Juan Pierre was traded away, then
adding Garret Anderson.
"The only disappointment is they didn't show faith in me in the offseason,"
he said. "Definitely, it's a relief. There was no opportunity here. Now I'll
go out and find a team to give me the opportunity I'm looking for. This is
not the first time I didn't fit in the picture. Obviously, finally this year
they felt they didn't need me as an insurance plan. That's what I've been the
last two years. I look forward to a fresh start. That's something I need."
The Dodgers' 40-man roster is now at 36. Assuming no other players are
removed, it appears they will add four non-roster players for the 25-man
Opening Day roster. The four most likely are Anderson, infielder Nick Green
and pitchers Jeff Weaver and Ramon Ortiz.
