off the Cape Breton coast of eastern Canada.
Oil and gas exploration in the pristine Gulf of St. Lawrence could begin as
early as December 1st. Plans for seismic testing include acoustic explosions
that would directly threaten the migratory route of blue whales, the feeding
grounds of leatherback turtles and the home of dolphins, Atlantic puffins and
beluga whales.

With oil interests pushing hard for fast-track approval of dangerous seismic
testing, the fishermen and other concerned residents of Cape Breton are uniting
in protest. They fear for the future of the gulf, which is the lifeblood of
their economy and community.

The proposed seismic operations would bombard this sensitive marine ecosystem
with bursts of high-energy noise. These acoustic explosions are repeated over
and over again, 24 hours a day, for days on end.
When this offshore seismic activity is taking place, the noise is so loud it
drowns out whale songs and communication. Such high-intensity noise drastically
shrinks the distance over which marine animals can contact one another.
Disrupting such communication, which is critical to breeding and defense
against predators, can be disastrous.

Canadian government and save this irreplaceable natural treasure.
