Gate Current is the current flowing into the gate terminal of a MOSFET. In a MOSFET, there should be an insulator (e.g. SiO2) to prevent any flow of DC current. However, nowadays, the oxide is very thin (~1.2nm), the electrons can directly tunnel through the insulator. As a result, there is significant gate current.
