The author of the book said  he couldn't understand either:

我再多寫些註解好了。"the dog in the ..."作者說他不喜歡"proper novels"，
為什麼呢？因為那些小說裡頭會出現如同'I am veined .....stimulus'這樣的
很難看懂的句子，他還說了他自己，他爸爸，以及另外兩人也都看不懂(黃色
部份)。

啊老外都看不懂的東西你又如何能指望我們英文不是母語的人能看得懂？

原PO 問的句子的原來出處是出自"The Waves"這本書，這書不是近代作品，內容
生澀，想要看懂當然是勇氣可嘉。
