那些謠言說規劃活動者正在制定另一個計畫
for the tournament should preparations go off the rails.
(而制定另外的計畫的原因是)為了怕比賽出差錯。

1. 請問文中的 as 的意思是 when 還是 because?
(我從雜誌後面的英翻中看不出 as 的意思)
2. fend off 在本文中指「逃避」還是「對抗」？
(前者在本文中具負面意義，後者具正面意義)
3. fend off 可指「逃避」或「對抗」，對嗎？
(我想問的是 fend off 是否為一個中性詞)
4. 最後一句的"should preparations go off the rails"的文法是不是有誤？
我還是第一次看到 should 後面接名詞
看起來也不像倒裝句...
我覺得應該是這樣才對：
... a "Plan B" for the tournament preparations should go off the rails.
或這樣：
... a "Plan B" in case the tournament preparations go off the rails.
請問我的想法正確嗎？
