[請益] 成語的使用？

請問版上對於英文作文友研究的版友，
我曾經聽過一個說法，成語在外國的作文中並不是很常見，
且如果用的話會被人家覺得很老掉牙或掉書袋，
這是正確的觀念嗎？
想知道外國人在寫文章時使用成語的頻率是多少？
