當我說"look in the phone book [for sth.]" 我是要找某不指定公司~
如: "My toilet's clogged" 我馬桶塞住了
"Look in the phone book for a plumber" 拿電話簿找個水管工吧
在此例，我不指定[水管工]，找誰都好
但是我說"look up [sth.] in the phone book"的時候，我是要依據某資料來找其他資料
如: "What's the number for the plumber you called last week?"
你上禮拜找的水管工電話是什?
"I don't remember; his name is John Petersen, look him up in the phone book"
我不記得耶，但他叫John Petersen，去電話簿裡查
這裡就是用a資料找b資料
Look in / look up 的區別在其他地方一樣適用，如:
"I need you to look in the database and find me potential clients"
我要你上資料庫幫我找些潛在客戶
"I need you to look up John Petersen for me in the database; i need his number"
我要你幫我查John Petersen的電話
Look in / look up 的差異在此~
