想請教if跟whether所引導的子句的問題，

哪些狀況下if跟whether可以混合使用，哪些狀況下不能用if，

看了文法書仍無法完全掌握其精髓，

例如，

１。”告訴她他是否喜歡動物。”

我知道可用

Tell her ”whether” he likes animals.

那此狀況是否可用if代替whether呢？

Tell her ”if” he likes animals.




２。”我不知道這個新聞是否為真。”

我知道可用

I don't know ”whether” the report is true.

那此狀況是否可用if代替whether呢？
↓

I don't know ”if” the report is true.

重要的是，該怎麼判斷哪些情況下if跟whether可以混合使用呢？

His dream is building a castle with a garden.
